ARTWORK SPECIFICATIONS OVERVIEW

File type:

PNG file with transparent background.

Using the correct file type is important, for more on how set up your file, and Photoshop templates click here)

Transparent Background:

The background of your design ie any area not to be printed needs to be set to transparent (to read more about transparencies click here)

Resolution:

300dpi   (sometimes this is listed as ppi, it is the same thing).

Size:

Your artwork should be saved at the correct size for the print with the design filling the whole are ie no excess space around the edge of the design

For print sizes of each garment, see below

Colour:

Use only CMYK safe colours, but using an RGB colour space, 8 Bit  (do not embed any colour profile).

In most cases you will be using a PNG file, as these can handle transparency, and therefore you have to use an RGB colour profile (as PNG files can not be in CMYK).  HOWEVER, it is important to only use CMYK safe colours as this is the colour profile space we can safely print in.   Some RGB colours are not reproducible in the printing process and will therefore not come out as bright as they appear on screen.

Please note:

  • The PNG file you upload is what is used to print from, not just the mock up, so needs to be print ready.

  • Ensure that you are using high resolution graphics and text. Pixelated artwork won’t print well.

  • Keep the background transparent, DTG is a digital form of printing, anything in the file will be printed, so ensure that the background is clean of any stray pixels.

  • Avoid semi transparencies, when printing onto coloured garments, the machine will print a layer of white ink underneath the entire print area. This means you can't use fades and semi-transparent areas within your design, or they will appear predominantly white where the under-base layer is showing through.

For more on transparency, click here

  • Your PNG file needs to be RGB colour profile, this is because PNG's can not handle the CMYK colour profile. However, to ensure what you are seeing on screen is accurately reproduced, you should use only CMYK safe colours.

  • JPEG files can be used as well as PNGs however, JPEGs can not handle 'transparency' so they are only suitable when the artwork is square or rectangular with no clear parts where there is supposed to be no print. For more on setting up your file click here
